Bella Joy Gardens
A Place of Healing and Remembrance

In memory of Isabella Joy Thallas and all victims of gun and domestic violence. Embodying a beacon of light and love in the heart of Denver, Colorado.

About Bella Joy Thallas & Gardens

Bella Joy Gardens is a tiny park located in the heart of Denver, CO.

It was founded after Isabella Joy Thallas was gunned down in downtown Denver while walking with her boyfriend Darian Simon and his dog June 10, 2020. Darian and Rocco (his dog) survived, Isabella did not.

Isabella (Bella) was 21 and one day when she was taken from us in her hometown. She casted a wide net across the state on our heart and souls. It wasn’t just her natural beauty or kindness that she was known for. Her gentile temperament, loving nature, forgiving character and the life of every party possible was based on a difficult childhood. It was the trauma that kept her judgement free and all inclusive. Still living her life in her Faith but attempting to find her way out of the darkness that ensnared her heart.

The Mural located at the park was graciously painted by Detour -aka- Thomas Evans, Hiero Vega and Hillary Powers unbeknownst to friend and family, immediately following her devastating loss. It was then that her Mother, Ana Thallas took the initiative to approach Denver City Council to support victims of Gun Violence by dedicating the park to Bella and everyone who has been affected by such a tragedy.

Every year, Ana hosts Peace In The City, among other gatherings.

An event that is open to the public and offers aide to victims of gun violence, victims of domestic violence, food, fun and live music.

The time has now come to officiate Bella Joy Gardens and make it a permanent staple in our city. We are asking you for your support to add this tiny park to our beautiful city. Taking something so horrific and tragic – turning it into a permanent place of refuge, healing, beauty, peace and love. Everything Bella embodied.

A Note from the Founder

Bella Joy Gardens was created as a place of peace, healing, and remembrance in honor of my daughter, Isabella “Bella” Joy Thallas. This garden is a personal and community-driven effort, built with love and support from those who believe in its purpose.

Bella Joy Gardens is not financially supported by any outside organization or foundation. Its creation and care are entirely upon Denver Parks and Recreation and independent individuals. Reflecting our commitment to honoring Bella’s life and the lives lost to gun violence in a space that brings comfort and healing to all.

Resources

This section is dedicated to offering resources for anyone experiencing tragedy, trauma, or unexpected loss, with the aim of supporting rehabilitation through resilience and healing.

Driven by Bella, her siblings, and their mother’s experiences, we recognized the need for easily accessible support services during challenging times. Finding timely information and help proved difficult for them.

To ease the burden during your healing journey, Ana compiled these resources in one place, hoping to help you navigate your path to restoration. These resources offer assistance to those in need of guidance, healing, and community.

Vision After Violence

Inspired by Isabella Joy Thallas

Vision After Violence was created in honor of Isabella Joy Thallas, whose compassion and desire to uplift others lives on through this initiative. Rooted in her dream to help children see the world more clearly—literally and figuratively—Vision After Violence provides free refractions and prescription glasses to underrepresented youth, children, and even babies who may not otherwise have access to essential vision care.

This program reflects Isabella’s heart for justice, equity, and love—ensuring that every child has the opportunity to see their full potential. What began as her personal hope has grown into a community mission, helping young eyes focus on a brighter, more inclusive future.
